The Center for Child and Family Health
Implementation efforts for the Period of PURPLE Crying: Keeping Babies Safe in North Carolina, are led by The Center for Child and Family Health (CCFH), a consortium of Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central University, and Child & Parent Support Services, Inc. Founded in 1996, CCFH’s mission is to care for children and families affected by trauma, abuse, and other forms of adversity. The Center provides prevention services, treatment for children and families, professional training, and research related to child traumatic stress by uniquely integrating community-based practice and academic excellence.

University of North Carolina Injury Prevention Research Center
Evaluation efforts for the Period of PURPLE Crying: Keeping Babies Safe in North Carolina are led by the University of North Carolina Injury Prevention Research Center (IPRC). Founded in 1987, UNCIPRC is one of 11 “Centers of Excellence” funded by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Center’s mission is to build the field of injury prevention and control through a combination of interdisciplinary scholarly approaches to research, intervention, and evaluation as well as by training the next generation of researchers and practitioners.

National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome
The National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome (NCSBS) is the national leader in the effort to prevent the shaking and abuse of children in the United States. Founded in 1992,the mission of the NCSBS is to educate and train parents and professionals, and to conduct research. In addition to developing the Period of PURPLE Crying curricula, the Center provides national and international conferences, advocacy, educational materials, and program models that can be replicated at local and state levels. The 12-member scientific board represents the most respected and well-published SBS experts in the world.

Doris Duke Charitable Foundation
The Doris Duke Charitable Fund has provided a $2 million grant to the University of North Carolina Injury Prevention Research Center. The mission of the Foundation is to improve the quality of people’s lives through grants sponsoring the performing arts, environmental conservation, medical research and the prevention of child maltreatment, and through preservation of the cultural and environmental legacy of Doris Duke’s properties.

The Duke Endowment
The Duke Endowment has provided a three-year, $2 million grant to the Center for Child and Family Health to support implementation efforts. Since 1924, the Duke Endowment has worked to help people and strengthen communities in North Carolina and South Carolina by nurturing children, promoting health, educating minds, and enriching spirits.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has provided a five-year, $2.9 million grant to the University of North Carolina Injury Prevention Research Center to support evaluation efforts.
