Who Is Behind the Period of PURPLE Crying?

The Period of PURPLE Crying was developed by the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome (NCSBS) with the purpose of educating parents about the normalcy of infant crying and the dangers of shaking an infant. 

Research shows that frustration with an infant's crying is the number one reason a child is shaken, primarily because people don't understand the normality of early increased crying in all infants and that it is a phase all normal, healthy infants go through.

This new information provided the NCSBS an opportunity to educate parents about this normal phase in a child's development and therfore reduce the liklihood that someone would shake an infant because of frustration with the child's crying.

The NCSBS is the only national organization devoted solely to the prevention of this form of child abuse providing program and services to parents and professionals all over North America.  For more information about the NCSBS and our important work please visit our website at www.dontshake.org.
